Puhlyakovsky was founded in 1780 and until 1920 was part of the Razdorskaya, the First District of the Great Don Cossacks Land. Culture of the Don region is inextricably linked with the work of the laureate of State M. Gorky's Prize the writer Anatoly Veniaminovich Kalinin  who lived in Puhlyakovsky from 1946. He was a screenwriter of one of the most famous Russian trilogy "Gypsy".
