The Razdorskaya village is the FIRST CAPITAL, the family nest of Don Cossacks. The first mention in the annals of the "Razdory town" refers to the 1571. The Porechny (Riverine) Island, situated just on the other side of the river Don in the middle of the sixteenth century became the first "Combined Arms Center" - the capital of the Don Cossacks.

In 834 year it was a Khazar fortress Sarkel, in 965 Prince Svyatoslav of Kiev destroyed it, and founded the Russian fortress of White Tower. In more recent times, seven kilometres from the old location has arisen new Tsimla. Since 1672 it is known as the Cossack village of Ust-Tsimla later Tsimlyanskaya village. It is very famous as the Cradle of the Don winemaking.

With the help of a large hydroelectric dam the Tsimlyansk Lake was created which is used primarily for water transport, irrigation and water supply. Hydroelectric dam Tsimlyanskaya actually is the lowest of the Volga-Don Canal. It is in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest construction from the sand.

Rostov-on-Don was founded on December 15, 1749, as a customs house was set up on the Temernik River (a tributary of the Don) to control the trade with Turkey. After the construction of the Volga-Don Shipping Canal in 1952 Rostov became a port of five seas: the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, the Caspian Sea, the White Sea, and the Baltic Sea. More than 1 million people.

The Curonian Spit is a 98 km long, thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast. Its southern portion lies within Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia and its northern within southwestern Lithuania. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by the two countries.
